Made the changes to reflect the new year since I will not be riding anymore in 2005

Well I decided not to ride today. So that means that yesterday was the last ride of the year! That is depressing well I look forward to next year. I only hope that updating this Blog does not get boring and I keep it up all year. I have managed to keep this updated for the past four months.

Monday Morning Ride

Well a new ride today for me! It would appear that I am going the opposite way of traffic for a change. The new location that my job moved to is too close so I go in a loop and head away then back towards the new location this way I can get some miles in. It is only 5.5 miles from my house but that is too close to ride. So I have a 11+ mile ride.

Well I have been working my butt off moving my server room for the company I work for. You would think I am an expert on moving this stuff by now. This is my fourth move with them in 8 years.

I have been riding but I have not been able to update the data that I keep. My small Linux box that I keep my database on has been turned off since Thursday.

The good news is that the move is done! I have all my servers up and running but now I have to go and help all the users. So I don't know when I will actually get my own stuff unpacked and running again. Hopefully I'll have all my desk stuff up and running on Tuesday. Tomorrow, Monday, there will be plenty of imagined problems but I will have to put those fires out with some comforting words and show them it really works. Such is the life of the Unix System Administrator.

Once again I would like to point out how my average speed has been dropping off since the colder weather set in. This has happened all 8 years that I have been driving my bicycle to work. Does anyone have a clue? Is it just sluggish muscles in the cold or is air thicker and harder to push away? Just some thoughts from my head. Darkness plays a huge roll in my evening times being slower then day rides. You feel like you are flying only to find out you are going slower.

Did have one oblivious person tonight on my ride home. I say oblivious because he must have passed with in 6 inches of me and I yelled and the guy was just driving without a clue. Most people who get close on purpose watch for your reaction in the rear view mirror this person was just looking straight ahead as if I was not there!

Hopefully this stuff has ended with this day. After weeks of boring rides with nothing happening. All this in one day. Just read the AM post below this to see what happened this morning.

Interesting ride this morning. Started out with a lady just blaring the horn at me. My response move to the center of the lane. Once I feel threatened by a driver and I FEEL it is for my safety I move right on over so they can't squeeze me. Then she passes me and then tries to block me on a 4 lane road with no traffic! Like she is really going to block me. Just like was I really blocking her if it is two lanes each way with no other cars on the road?

Then there is the truck that just gives me about 6 inches as he passes. Real nice dude! Do you know the laws in this fine state of North Carolina.

Then another idiot in another truck, this was one of those little jap trucks. He is on a side street to my right apparently waiting to make a left and he does not see me when I am 4 feet from him. He actually tries to gun it in front of me. He didn't and I was able to swerve to my left to avoid him.

I would swear its a full moon but it is not.

Praise GOD tonight. I was in a situation where I normally would push to make sure I made the left turn through the light since it is a pain in the neck light that does not see my bicycle, one of the few along my route that is like that. Anyway I had the impression that oh well no sense pushing hard on the pedals I might just as well wait for a car to trip it. When just as I would have been making the left this guy from the right lane turns sharply to left just missing me.

Passed a few gas stations with long lines tonight. Looks like many people think there is going to be a gas shortage. I wonder where that started? Same place where the high gas prices are coming from I guess. I saw 2.99 a gallon on my way home. I wonder what it will be up to by tomorrow. Some places posted signs out of gas!
